Load a portrait taken against a plain light background, align the crown of your head and chin inside the biometric oval guides, and download a compliant 600 × 600 px (or 1200 × 1200 px @ 600 DPI) square JPEG—all without uploading your biometric portrait to a third-party server.
Biometric privacy first
Passport and visa photos are high-resolution biometric identifiers of your face. This tool frames and exports your 2×2 inch photo locally in your browser tab. It does not alter your facial features with AI, which government agencies prohibit.

How to format a 2×2 inch passport photo at home
To take a compliant passport or visa photo with your iPhone, stand in front of a flat white or off-white wall with even front lighting so there are no harsh shadows on your face or behind your ears. Have someone take the photo from chest/eye level about 4–5 feet away rather than using a close-up wide-angle selfie.
Once you have the photo, load it into the cropper above. Use the Zoom, Horizontal Pan, and Vertical Pan sliders until the top of your head sits between the upper guide lines, your eyes rest inside the middle band, and your chin aligns with the lower marker.
- Select your portrait photo taken against a plain white or off-white background.
- Use the Zoom and Pan sliders to align your head and eyes with the on-screen 2×2 guides.
- Choose 600 × 600 px (300 DPI standard) or 1200 × 1200 px (high-res) output.
- Download the verified sRGB JPEG directly to your device.
Storing passport scans and ID photos on iPhone
After submitting your passport renewal or visa application, avoid leaving raw passport scans and ID photos sitting in your main camera roll or unencrypted Downloads folder.
With Octoshield on iPhone, you can import passport PDFs, visa receipts, and ID photos into a local AES-256-GCM encrypted vault protected by a separate secret.
Frequently asked questions
01What pixel size is a 2×2 inch passport photo?+
At 300 pixels per inch (DPI), a 2 × 2 inch photo is exactly 600 × 600 pixels. Official US online passport portals accept square JPEGs from 600 × 600 pixels up to 1200 × 1200 pixels.
02Why shouldn't I use an AI background remover on a passport photo?+
The US State Department and many embassies reject photos that have been digitally altered or exhibit AI edge halos around hair and shoulders. Use a real plain light wall and crop only.
03Is my face photo uploaded anywhere?+
No. All framing, cropping, and JPEG encoding happen 100% locally in your browser.
