THE QUICK ANSWER

Photos copied to an iPhone through computer photo syncing may not be deletable directly in Photos. Review the photo-sync settings on that computer and remove the unwanted folders from its sync selection. Keep the original files safe before changing anything.

Check whether these are computer-synced pictures

If some photos delete normally but a particular group has a disabled trash button, check how that group arrived. A folder selected in a computer’s device-sync settings is different from a picture you just took with the iPhone camera.

Apple specifically identifies computer-synced images as a reason the trash button may be gray. A third-party cleaner does not gain extra authority to bypass this restriction.

  1. Identify the Mac or PC used to sync those photos.
  2. Locate the device’s photo-sync settings and review the selected folders or albums.
  3. Preserve the computer originals, then adjust the sync selection and apply the change.

Do not turn off unrelated services to test a guess

Switching off iCloud Photos is not the same as changing a computer’s synced-folder selection. If you are unsure where an image came from, inspect a small sample and the computer settings before altering the entire phone library.

If you no longer have the source computer, consult Apple’s current device-sync guidance for your setup. Avoid treating a factory reset as a routine photo-cleanup method.

Where Octoshield helps once the library is editable

Use Octoshield’s Cleaner for photos that iOS permits you to manage. It can organize keep, delete, and vault decisions, but it cannot silently remove protected or computer-managed items.

If you import sensitive images into the vault, check the imported file before removing the source through the appropriate workflow. Keeping a private copy does not automatically remove a folder on the computer or its backups.

Frequently asked questions

01Can a paid cleaner force-delete these photos?+

A cleaner is still subject to iOS photo-library permissions and deletion rules. Do not buy one solely to bypass a disabled trash button.
